Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
