The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Police Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who died in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow on social media, remarking: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our city”.

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official informed the news agency.

Officers that entered the lodging seized two firearms and magazines when the suspect was detained, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.
