Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
