Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
