World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
